COLUMBIA — A 26-year-old Columbia man was arrested Friday on suspicion of raping a 25-year-old female college student, Columbia Police Department spokeswoman Jill Wieneke said.

Bond was set at $150,000 for the suspect, Ahmed O. Salau.

Wieneke said a young woman responded to a rental ad on Craigslist for an apartment at 2607 Eastwood Drive, Apartment 41, which is Salau's address. She met with a man and stayed the night in the vacant apartment, Wieneke said, adding she could not comment on what prompted the woman to spend the night there.

The victim awoke at 3 a.m. to the man naked and forcing sex on her, Wieneke said. “He held her down; she couldn’t move away.”

Wieneke said that the woman told the man “no” several times and that a struggle ensued.
