COLUMBIA — A Columbia woman was in serious condition at University Hospital Tuesday morning after being struck by a semi-truck.

Jaimie M. Grimes, 18, was struck by a white semi-truck pulling a trailer while she was crossing Interstate 70. The truck did not stop and continued eastbound on the highway.

Grimes and a 19-year-old man were walking from the Fastlane 66 gas station, 1013 West Blvd., to a house north of the interstate.

The man jumped back, according to a Columbia Police news release, but Grimes did not and was struck by the truck.

A Columbia Police officer observed the two on the ground at 12:06 a.m. and called for assistance. The release said the female had obvious injuries when police found them.
