Nominations being accepted for Columbia Values Diversity Awards

COLUMBIA­— Nominations are being accepted for the 14th annual Columbia Values Diversity Awards.

The awards recognize individuals, families and organizations that have encouraged diversity in the community. One award will go to an individual or family; another will go to a group or organization.

The awards "recognize people whose work in our community exemplifies the life and teachings of Dr. Martin Luther King by fostering individual dignity, racial equality, understanding, peacemaking and solving problems through nonviolence," according to a news release from the city's Division of Human Services.

The awards will be presented at the 18th annual Columbia Values Diversity Celebration on Jan. 13.

The deadline for nominations is Nov. 30.
