JEFFERSON CITY — Outgoing U.S. Rep. Ike Skelton is the keynote speaker at the annual Veterans Day ROTC breakfast at Lincoln University in Jefferson City.

Skelton will be delivering a farewell speech of sorts. The Democrat first was elected to Congress in 1976 and has been the featured speaker at the university's Veterans Day event each year since it began in 1987.

But Skelton was defeated in last week's election by Republican Vicky Hartzler, and his term will end in January. For the past four years, Skelton has served as chairman of the House Armed Services Committee.
