SPRINGFIELD — Regional leaders from across southwest Missouri are expected at a two-day Missouri State University conference on Ozarks water resources.

The university's Greater Ozarks Leadership Development program is hosting the water workshop, opening Thursday on the Springfield campus.

Program coordinator Gail Melgren says that local planning is essential as other areas of the country and the world struggle with water scarcity and pollution.

Topics for the conference include regulatory issues, financing public water projects and efficiency efforts.
