KANSAS CITY — Former ambassador Ann Wagner, of Missouri, has set up a fundraising committee for a possible campaign to head the Republican National Committee.

Wagner was co-chairwoman of the RNC from 2001 to 2005 and also was chairwoman of the Missouri Republican Party for six years. She served as ambassador to Luxembourg under President George W. Bush from 2005 to 2009. This year, she was co-chairwoman of Roy Blunt's successful campaign for Senate in Missouri.

Republican consultant John Hancock, who organized Wagner's fundraising committee, said Friday that she is very seriously considering a bid for RNC chairwoman.

Some Republicans have expressed displeasure with current chairman Michael Steele.

Republican National Committee member Saul Anuzis of Michigan has already said he will run for chairman.
