House fire north of Columbia causes $60,000 in damage

Boone County Fire Department Training Officer Josh Creamer surveys the damage of a house fire Sunday evening on Bon Gor Court, north of Columbia. While no residents were injured, the damage from a fire, which started in the kitchen, exceeded $60,000.

The Boone County Fire Department responded to a house fire at 709 Bon Gor Court around 8:15 Sunday evening. According to Boone County Fire Department Training Officer Josh Creamer, the fire was contained within about 10 minutes.

The fire began in the kitchen of the home and was confined there, but smoke spread throughout the house, causing an estimated $60,000 in damage. The cause of the fire was under investigation.

The renter of the home, Tashia Sykes, was in the house with her two children, ages 17 and 12, when the fire broke out. They were uninjured and were seeking temporary housing through the Red Cross.
