Tuesday, November 23, 2010 | 10:14 a.m. CST

JEFFERSON CITY — Missouri transportation officials have created a new board to offer advice on boosting diversity in hiring and contracting.

The Statewide Inclusion Advisory Council will advise the state Transportation Department on diversity issues with employment, procurement and construction. The council will include contractors, leaders from women- and minority-owned businesses and labor.

MoDOT's director of equal opportunity and diversity will oversee the advisory council. It is to meet regularly with department leaders and the Missouri Highways and Transportation Commission.
