Columbia Transit announces winter bus schedule

Friday, December 10, 2010 | 2:04 p.m. CST

COLUMBIA — Columbia Transit released its winter break schedule for the MU campus Friday morning.

On Dec. 17, service to and from campus will end at 8 p.m. Campus routes include the gold and black routes as well as campus shuttles. There will be no service until Jan. 13, and regular bus service to campus will resume Jan. 18, according to the release.

Limited service on the MU campus will be offered Jan. 13 and 14 for students returning early from break, said Jill Stedem, Columbia Transit spokeswoman.

"Campus being out does slow things down a bit, but the buses still run on normal routes," Stedem said.

Fixed routes, which serve all of Columbia, will remain in service through the break, except on holidays. On Dec. 24, the routes will maintain the normal operating schedule, finishing with the final departure from Wabash Station at 6:45 p.m. There will be no bus service on Christmas Day or New Year's Day, according to the release.

On Dec. 31, Columbia Transit will offer shuttles for First Night, a New Year's Eve event held downtown, as well as its regularly scheduled operation, according to the release.

"Columbia Transit has been a sponsor for several years, and we provide shuttle service for all the venues in the downtown area," Stedem said.

The shuttles for First Night will run from 7 p.m. until 12:30 a.m. along the downtown route, Stedem said.

Columbia Transit will also close its routes in observation of Martin Luther King Day on Jan. 17, she said.

Emergency routes are in place in case of significant ice or snow. The Columbia Transit snow plan switches from 40-minute to 1-hour headways along regular routes, Stedem said.
