COLUMBIA — The exterior of an apartment in southeast Columbia caught fire Wednesday.

A fire crew and police officers arrived at 1802 Juniper Court at 3:57 p.m. after neighbors noticed flames coming from the back of the house, said Columbia Fire Department Capt. Eric Hartman. Hartman said Columbia firefighters contained the fire within five minutes.

Hartman said there were $3,000 in damages and only the exterior of the apartment was affected.

No one was home at the time of the fire. Hartman said Columbia firefighters are working to determine the fire's cause.
