COLUMBIA — For the second year, MU Health Care will make an appearance in the Tournament of Roses Parade to celebrate organ, tissue and eye donors.

The university and the MU Women’s and Children’s hospitals will be featured on the "Donate Life" float entry in the 122nd Rose Parade on Jan. 1, 2011, in Pasadena, Calif.

MU Health Care's Donor Council has collected money to pay for 80 roses to represent the 80 donors of 2009. The donors are from Jan. 1, 2009, to Dec. 31, 2009. Each rose will have the name of the donor and a message of love.

“We’re honoring 2009 donors because the 2010 year isn’t over with yet,” said Matt Splett, MU health care media coordinator.

The float’s theme is “Seize the Day!” and features 60 colorful memorial floragraph portraits of deceased donors and approximately 3,000 roses to honor individual organ donors.
