HOLTS SUMMIT — The wife of a former mid-Missouri police officer has been charged with first-degree murder in her husband's weekend shooting death.

Fifty-two-year-old Paul Plunkett was shot Saturday afternoon in the house he shared with 37-year-old Sandra Plunkett in the Callaway County town of Holts Summit. Plunkett had retired after nearly two decades as a Jefferson City police officer and ran a pest control business.

Callaway County prosecutor Chris Wilson filed the murder charge against Sandra Plunkett shortly before 7 p.m. Tuesday. She had been arrested earlier in the day. It was not immediately known if she had a lawyer.

Sandra Plunkett had told investigators a man dressed in camouflage had pointed a gun at her outside her home. She said she went inside and found her husband shot in the back of the head.
