Columbia College men's basketball team wins conference opener

COLUMBIA — The Columbia College men's basketball team defeated Williams Baptist (Ark.) College 74-49 on Thursday night in its American Midwest Conference opener. 

The Cougars (14-2) closed out the first half with a 16-3 run to lead 41-26 at halftime then pushed their advantage to as many as 33 in the second half, taking advantage of 25 turnovers by the Eagles (6-7).

Freshman Devin Griffin had 14 points and eight steals to lead Columbia College. Jaron Strickland also finished in double-figures with 11 points.

The Cougars, who are a perfect 10-0 at the Arena of Southwell Complex this season, play next at 4 p.m. Saturday at Park in another AMC contest in Parkville.
