Columbia College women's basketball team starts AMC play with victory

COLUMBIA — The Columbia College women's basketball team defeated Williams Baptist (Ark.) College 75-54 on Thursday in its American Midwest Conference opener.

The Cougars' Janita Session, the AMC player of the week, led all scorers with 18 points and five rebounds. Kayla Rice had 16 points, and Denise Rosario finished with 11 points, while Amanda Phillips pulled down a game-high 10 rebounds and had four assists.

Jessica Shepard had 14 points to lead the Eagles (9-3).

Columbia College (10-5) plays next at 2 p.m. Saturday against AMC foe Park at Parkville.
