KANSAS CITY — A man shot to death by Kansas City police was released just hours earlier from a Kansas prison.

Police identified the man shot Wednesday as he struggled with an officer as 27-year-old Marcus A. Robinson.

The shooting occurred at a home Robinson planned to share with his pregnant girlfriend. She was inside with several children and two other children were in a car in the driveway when Robinson was shot on the home's porch.

Police say Robinson was shot after he pulled a gun while struggling with an officer. The police followed him to the house after he sped away when they tried to stop him for driving erratically.

The Kansas City Star reports that Robinson had been released Wednesday after serving three months for a parole violation.
