Kroger recalls chocolate chips

Wednesday, January 12, 2011 | 5:56 p.m. CST

COLUMBIA — Kroger Value brand semi-sweet chocolate chips have been recalled in many states, including areas of Missouri.

The chocolate chips possibly contain an undeclared milk protein and consumption of this product may present a health risk for people with allergies or severe sensitivity to milk protein or lactose.

Local Gerbes stores may carry the product.

“If customers do not have allergies to milk it should be safe to consume,” Gerbes spokeswoman Sheila Lowrie said. “If anyone has purchased the item they may return it for a full refund."
