COLUMBIA — Police are investigating the homicide of a 31-year-old man found dead in a southeast Columbia mobile home park.
A 911 caller reported at 2:13 p.m. Tuesday that James Leon Porter of Columbia was wounded and lying on the ground between a shed and a trailer in the Sunset Mobile Home Park at 4130 Lenoir St.
The caller described Porter's injuries as "stab wounds," but police spokeswoman Jill Wieneke said the true cause of his wounds has not yet been determined.
“I don’t even know that it was stab wounds," Wieneke said. "It was more than one [wound] for sure.”
Police, fire and emergency medical services were dispatched. Paramedics tried to revive him with CPR and found him unresponsive, Wieneke said.
Police went home to home Tuesday afternoon asking residents if they heard anything, she said.
An autopsy will be scheduled later to determine the cause of death.
Police do not have any suspect information and are asking anyone with information is encouraged to contact CrimeStoppers at 875-TIPS.
