The Hickman girls basketball team placed second at the Sedalia tournament, losing 52-49 to Springfield-Parkview in Saturday's championship game.
Aqua Corpening scored her 1,000th point for Hickman earlier in the day when the Kewpies beat Knob Noster 55-25 to advance to the title game. The Kewpies won the tipoff and Corpening took the ball in for a layup to reach the milestone.
Hickman (13-5) held a two-point advantage at the end of the third period against Parkview, and the lead changed hands numerous times until Parkview pushed ahead in the final seconds. Corpening and Jade Holly led the Kewpies with 19 points apiece and Claire Ortbals scored 10.
Holly had 20 points against Knob Noster. Corpening scored 14, and Hickman coach Tonya Mirts said Cherish Walton contributed a strong defensive effort.
