COLUMBIA — The National Weather Service has alerted the public to a major winter storm that could bring significant accumulations of ice and snow Monday through Wednesday.

Freezing drizzle or snow is possible as early as Sunday night, with a mix of freezing rain, sleet and snow possible through Tuesday night, according to the advisory issued early Saturday by the Weather Service in St. Louis.

"While differences continue to exist on specifics such as exact track and precipitation type for any given area, the range of weather data continues to point toward a significant winter event," the advisory said.
