Boone Electric prepares for potential outages

COLUMBIA —At Boone Electric Cooperative, everyone from office employees to linemen were told to be on call Monday through Wednesday as it prepared for potential power outages caused by the approaching winter storm.

“Although the latest forecast is saying that the significant ice event is skewed to the south and that we may miss it, we are preparing nevertheless,” said Vicky Kenmna, manger of human resources and communications for Boone Electric.

Boone Electric customers can report outages by calling 449-4181 or 800-225-8143.

“At this time, we are holding all of our crews tight to our service territory, just until we see what we get," Kenmna said Monday afternoon. "If it ends up that through Wednesday we aren’t going to have any outages, then we will make the call to send our people to other utilities who may need assistance. We don’t want to send anyone away unless we know for sure we won't need them.”
