COLUMBIA — Deanthony Weir, 26, was arrested after a stabbing in an alley between Ninth and Tenth streets Wednesday night, according to Columbia police.

Weir was taken into custody at the corner of Ninth and Locust streets seven minutes after a 911 caller reported the crime. He was arrested on suspicion of first-degree assault.

The victim, a 36-year-old man, told police he was walking his dog in an alley between Ninth and Tenth streets when he encountered Weir, who was urinating, according to a news release from police Sgt. Jill Wieneke. Weir urinated on the victim’s dog and became angry when confronted about it. He stabbed the victim in the abdomen, Wieneke said in the release.

The victim was transported to the hospital. His condition was unknown as of early Thursday afternoon.
