Missouri senior pole vaulter Brian Hancock was named Big 12 Athlete of the Week on Tuesday.

Hancock beat his own school record after clearing 5.38m (17-7 3/4 feet) in the pole vault at the Mizzou Collegiate Challenge on Friday.

The mark bettered the record he set in 2009 and qualified him for the NCAA Indoor Championships on March 11 to 12.

Hancock is now the top-ranked pole vaulter in the Big 12 and ninth nationally with his record-setting mark.

He is the first Tiger to win the Big 12 Athlete of the Week award since April.
