Snow and sleet began falling in Columbia on Thursday. The National Weather Service has issued a winter weather advisory for Boone County and the surrounding area effective until 6 a.m. Friday.

Lance Wanner shovels the sidewalk Thursday outside of Panera Bread on Ninth Street. Wanner said he was wearing shorts because he was not expecting the snow so soon.
