COLUMBIA — The Missouri Department of Transportation will begin repairs on Interstate 70 near the Rocheport Exit in Boone County this spring, according to MoDOT Area Engineer Mike Schupp.
A construction contract was approved Wednesday for crews to excavate and repair a portion of the road on each side of the highway to keep soil from sliding down and damaging the pavement, Schupp said.
Widel Inc. of Blackwater won the contract after submitting the lowest bid, for $730,028.78.
Schupp said the roadwork should be completed by summer 2011, but until then, motorists should expect lane closures in the eastbound and westbound lanes while crews make repairs.
Drivers should be aware of construction signs and slow down to accommodate the work crews and trucks entering and leaving the zones, Schupp said.
"Typically they work pretty much through the weather; there shouldn’t be any delays," Schupp said.
