Severe weather drill rescheduled for Thursday

Monday, March 7, 2011 | 1:12 p.m. CST

COLUMBIA – The annual tornado drill has been rescheduled for 1:30 p.m. Thursday.

The Missouri Severe Weather Drill, originally set for Tuesday afternoon, has been postponed because of the possibility of severe weather on Tuesday, Jim Kramper of the National Weather Service in St. Louis said.

“This was done to avoid any confusion because thunderstorms are expected for Tuesday afternoon,” Kramper said.

The drill is part of Missouri Severe Weather Awareness Week. Each day of the week is dedicated to encouraging safe practices when it comes to severe weather, and the public is asked to review preparedness steps at the Weather Service website.
