League forum to focus on candidates, issues on April ballot
COLUMBIA — Candidates for open seats on the Columbia City Council, the Columbia School Board and the Boone Hospital Board of Trustees will attend a candidate and ballot issue forum Tuesday sponsored by the League of Women Voters.
The forum will be held from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. in the Friends Room of the Columbia Public Library, 100 W. Broadway.
Carol Schreiber, the league's voter service chairwoman, said all candidates except First Ward City Council candidate Darrell Foster had confirmed their attendance.
Bob Roper, a columnist for the Columbia Daily Tribune, will speak about the proposed mayoral and City Council stipends that will appear on the April 5 municipal ballot.
Tad Johnsen of the Columbia Water and Light Department will speak about the city’s purchase of Ameren’s share of the Columbia Energy Center. Both speakers will talk for five minutes.
Candidates will also field questions from the moderator and the audience.
Schreiber said City Council and school board candidates will have about 40 minutes each to answer questions.
Rachel Brekhus, vice president of the league, will moderate the forum.
