COLUMBIA — Missouri sophomore pitcher Chelsea Thomas was named Division I National Player of the Week by the National Fastpitch Coaches Association and Collegiate Softball Player of the Week by USA Softball on Tuesday.
Thomas was named Big 12 Pitcher of the Week after she won all three of her starts and threw two perfect games.
She struck out 11 batters in her perfect game against Drake on Wednesday, the first perfect game thrown by an MU pitcher since 2002. Then she set a school record with 15 strikeouts against Missouri State in her perfect game on Sunday.
Thomas also picked up a win on Friday with a complete-game three-hit shutout against Southeast Missouri State. She did not give up a hit until the sixth inning of that game.
With the two perfect games, Thomas has now thrown six no-hitters in her career, the most of any pitcher in school history.
The No. 14 Tigers (11-3) return to action at 3 p.m. on Wednesday afternoon at University Field against Arkansas.
