COLUMBIA — A 38-year-old Columbia man was arrested Tuesday morning on suspicion of possessing child pornography.

The Boone County Prosecuting Attorney's Office later charged Joel W. Hartenbower of 2004 Park De Ville Place with three counts of possessing child pornography, Cyber Crimes Task Force Coordinator Andy Anderson said.

Hartenbower was released from the Boone County Jail after posting a $60,000 bond.

The arrest was the result of an investigation that began on Jan. 13 when the Columbia Police Department received a tip about child pornography on a Columbia computer, Anderson said.

Police contacted the task force, and on March 1, a court ordered search warrant was served at the suspect's residence. Two computers were seized from the search, and after examining one of the computers, police found pictures and videos of children engaged in sexual conduct, Anderson said.
