COLUMBIA — The Columbia School Board will consider two major proposals Monday regarding employee benefits for 2012 and employee movement up the pay scale for the 2011-12 school year.

The Finance Committee has recommended the board allow teachers to advance one step on the pay scale during the upcoming school year. *Salaries for district school teachers were frozen for two school years, starting in 2008-2009. Operation resumed in 2010-2011.

The committee also recommended, along with other pay scale improvements, that the board adopt new school administrator, occupational therapist and physical therapist pay scales.

The proposed changes to the district’s medical plan include an individual deductible increase of $100, a $5 increase for prescription drug copays and anincrease of 7.11 percent that the board pays for each full-time employee .

With these changes, the board would pay $750,000 more than it does now to support the medical plan.

No changes have been proposed for the dental or life insurance plans.

The district’s Employee Benefits Committee presented the changes to the Finance Committee on March 9, stating the proposed changes are the most effective way for employees and the board to share cost increases.

The Finance Committee voted to recommended the board continue to fund employee benefits, accepting the increase in board contributions.

The board will also consider and vote on the 2011-12 school year calendar at the meeting.

The board will meet at 6:30 p.m. Monday in the district’s administration building, 1818 W. Worley St.
