LETTER: Helen Anthony a good fit for rapidly expanding Columbia

Monday, March 14, 2011 | 4:35 p.m. CDT; updated 8:25 p.m. CDT, Monday, March 14, 2011

I strongly support Helen Anthony for the City Council from the Fifth Ward of Columbia.

I have known Helen personally since moving to Columbia three years ago. She has become the person I contact regarding information about Columbia politics. Her work with the Planning and Zoning Commission shows she cares about the direction of our city. She is forthright, honest and hard-working and would bring those attributes to the position.

She can work with both sides from a sensible, centrist position to make sure we balance business and private views as Columbia moves forward in growth. With the city growing rapidly, we have to be sure that such expansion is not chaotic, that it does not overwhelm our existing infrastructure or harm our environment. At the same time, well-planned growth with new business ventures providing jobs and tax income is important, and Helen will be a voice on the council to help guide such growth.

Sherry Waddell-Miller lives in the Fifth Ward.
