Shots fired in southern Columbia early Monday morning

COLUMBIA — Columbia police responded to multiple calls of shots being fired on Apple Tree Court early Monday morning.

Officers responded to the calls at about 2:05 a.m. and later determined the shots were fired either on the parking lot of 280 Apple Tree Court or in front of 260 and 280 Apple Tree Court, a police news release stated.

The incident involved a gray car, which was driving in the area without headlights on, according to the release. There were no injuries, and officers found no sign of damage to the nearby buildings.

Police collected casings as evidence of a shooting, said Latisha Stroer, Columbia Police public information officer. The investigation was ongoing as of Monday evening. Police had not identified suspects and had not made any arrests. There was no information about the reason for the gunshots as of Monday evening.
