ST. LOUIS — St. Louis police say a motorist passing by a gunfire exchange between a group of standing people and another group in a vehicle was shot in the head and killed by a stray bullet.

Investigators say 39-year-old Patrice Thimes died at the scene of the shooting shortly before 10 p.m. Thursday.

Police tell KTVI that Thimes was talking on a cell phone with her fiance when several shots were fired. Police say witnesses reported that a group of people were standing outside when they began exchanging gunfire with a group in a black vehicle.

Her sport utility vehicle then swerved into oncoming lanes and hit several parked, unoccupied vehicles.

There was no immediate word on any arrests.
