Planned Parenthood support rally scheduled for Saturday

Friday, March 18, 2011 | 2:52 p.m. CDT

COLUMBIA — A rally is scheduled for 10:30 a.m. Saturday outside Planned Parenthood of Kansas and Mid-Missouri at 711 N. Providence Road as part of the "Stand with Planned Parenthood" campaign.

Supporters hope to highlight the services of Planned Parenthood and encourage elected officials to reject the proposal to bar Planned Parenthood from receiving federal funding, according to a news release from the organization.

Organizers will share information about the campaign and future of Planned Parenthood in the community, and patients and state Rep. Stephen Webber, D-Columbia, are scheduled to attend.

Abortion-rights opponents have also been gathering outside of the Planned Parenthood center every day since March 9 as part of the nationwide "40 Days for Life" prayer campaign. They are scheduled to continue vigils until April 17.
