Hickman baseball wins second game

Thursday, March 24, 2011 | 11:59 p.m. CDT

The Hickman baseball team outlasted host Southern Boone 5-4 in eight innings Thursday.

The Kewpies (2-0) scored the winning run in the top of the eighth when Pete Stansberry doubled off the left field fence and was driven home by Joey Smith's fly ball.

Garrett Dishinger came on in relief to pitch the bottom of the frame and prevented Southern Boone from responding.

John Jones kept Hickman in the game when he came in to pitch in the seventh with no outs and the bases loaded but kept Southern Boone from scoring.

Tyler Kemble was the Kewpies' starter, allowing one hit and one run and striking out seven in four innings of work.
