LETTER: A vote for Anthony is a vote for experience in planning, zoning

Monday, March 28, 2011 | 4:33 p.m. CDT

I am writing to encourage Fifth Ward voters to place their confidence in Helen Anthony on April 5.

Helen has diligently served on the Columbia Planning and Zoning Commission for three years. She is well-schooled in long-range planning and all aspects of the planning process.

Sometimes longtime residents (like myself) tend to think it's always a good thing to have "institutional knowledge." I have come to think that a fresh look can sometimes bring new perspective to our longtime way of doing business. A person like Helen, who moved to our town and immediately put herself to work for the benefit of our citizens, is a proven leader and an asset to our community. It's time to carry it a step further and elect her to use her accumulated knowledge and experience on the Columbia City Council.

Please vote on April 5 and cast your ballot for Helen Anthony if you live in the Fifth Ward. You won't be sorry.

DeAnna Walkenbach lives in Columbia's Fourth Ward.
