LETTER: Mitch Richards a strong voice for the First Ward

Tuesday, March 29, 2011 | 11:52 a.m. CDT

I am not alone in my belief that Columbia's First Ward needs a strong voice on the City Council. Mitch Richards has that voice and has repeatedly demonstrated his willingness to use it in public discourse.

As an outspoken advocate for civil liberties, civilian police oversight, and government transparency, Richards's tireless dedication has affected our city for the better.

Representatives willing to stand firmly on principal and steadfast against the establishment paternal political culture of our city are sorely lacking today. It is time for Mitch Richards to use his strong voice to represent the people of the First Ward.

Mark Flakne lives in Columbia's Fifth Ward.
