LETTER: Johnson, Paul would make great presidential candidates

Tuesday, April 5, 2011 | 10:56 a.m. CDT

Editor's note: This letter is in response to a recent Today's Question in which we asked: Who should be the 2012 Republican presidential nominee?

Either former New Mexico Gov. Gary Johnson or Texas Congressman Ron Paul would be super.  Both have a strong adherence to the Constitution (rare these days).  Both also had strong showings in the straw-poll at CPAC in February, where liberty-oriented Constitutional conservatives are taking over; and changing the debate in the GOP on: war, drug policy, civil liberties and real free markets reforms.  If only mainstream journalism at large would even mention them in polls, or invite them to primary debates, some substantive discussion could take place...

Steve Spellman hosts “The Mid-Missouri Freedom Forum” on 89.5FM KOPN radio on Tuesday nights from 5 to 6 p.m. and is board treasurer of the PedNet Coalition.
