Thunderstorms expected for Sunday afternoon

COLUMBIA — On Saturday, temperatures in Columbia reached 89 degrees, matching the record high recorded April 3. On Sunday, temperatures were predicted to reach the mid-80s. 

There is a chance for thunderstorms later Sunday afternoon and that could continue into the evening, said meteorologist Melissa Byrd, who works at the National Weather Service in St. Louis. Winds were expected to reach 20 to 30 mph.

Severe weather is a "slight risk" in Columbia, Byrd said. According to the National Weather Service, the main threats with severe weather include hail and high winds
