LETTER: Support federal funding for Planned Parenthood

Monday, April 18, 2011 | 11:24 a.m. CDT

Editor's note: In the April 11 Today's Question column, we asked: Do you support federal funding for Planned Parenthood? This following letter comes in response.

Point 1: Whereas the money cannot be used for abortions, why make a political or theological issue out of it?

Point 2: With the world population at 7 billion souls, give or take, does it not make sense to PLAN?

Point 3: If you have replicated yourself and thus guaranteed perpetuation of the family name, isn't it time to stop?

Speaking from a purely pragmatic viewpoint, we do have limited resources. How so? Well, except for the Hawaiian island chain, no new land is being created that I know of. Travel to that new planet which seems like Earth is a long way in the future, as far as anyone knows.

Even if it were now possible, how long before we strip that place of resources? I say let's get real. The Chinese already have with a negative income tax on any child over one.

Finally, we send many children to bed hungry every night right here in the U.S. Want more kids? Adopt them from wherever you want to. Sure, it isn't as much fun as making your own, but that can be corrected. Keep on doin' it, just use appropriate measures. All righty then?
