Potential severe weather expected Monday night, Tuesday

COLUMBIA — Scattered thunderstorms with hail are possible Monday afternoon into the evening, with a stronger threat for severe weather arriving Tuesday afternoon.

Thunderstorms expected to form late Tuesday afternoon could bring a wide range of severe weather including the possibility of tornadoes, hail, damaging straight-line winds and heavy rain.

Columbia borders the western edge of the predicted severe outbreak. Where the storm begins will determine how or whether the Columbia area is affected, National Weather Service meteorologist Jim Kramper said.

"The bigger threat is further east," Kramper said. "But Columbia is close enough to worry about, and we want awareness to be there."
