Tuesday, May 3, 2011 | 8:23 p.m. CDT

Missouri softball pitcher Chelsea Thomas was named the Big 12 Pitcher of the Week on Tuesday after notching two wins last week.

Thomas (23-4) has won the award five times this season and three times in the past four weeks. She leads the nation with a 0.72 ERA in 27 starts this season. She has pitched 174 innings and has allowed 83 hits, 34 walks and has struck out 283 batters. She is four strikeouts away from breaking Missouri's single season strikeout record of 286, set by Erin Kalka in 2004.

Last week, Thomas pitched four of five innings in the Tigers' perfect game against SIU-Edwardsville on Wednesday. She struck out 10 batters in Missouri's 10-0 win.

In Missouri's 5-0 win over No. 16 Oklahoma State on Saturday, Thomas allowed one hit and struck out 13 over seven innings.

The Missouri softball team will play a doubleheader against Western Illinois at University Field on Wednesday at 3 p.m. and 5 p.m.
