Free car seat inspections offered at State Farm Insurance

Friday, May 6, 2011 | 9:45 a.m. CDT

COLUMBIA — State Farm Insurance will be inspecting child car seats for people Saturday.

Car crashes are the No. 1 cause of death among children and young people, according to a news release from State Farm Insurance. Three out of four car seats nationwide aren't correctly installed, the news release stated. State Farm Insurance is hoping to reverse this trend.

The free event will include a roll-over simulator demonstration, a smokehouse to teach kids about fire safety, a fire truck and a special appearance by McGruff from the police department. State Farm is partnering with University Hospital, Safe Kids Columbia and MoDOT to put on the event.

The event will be from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday at the State Farm Insurance Building, 4700 S. Providence Road. If it rains, the event will be held under tents.
