COLUMBIA – Two people were injured after their car hit a tree around 2 a.m. Monday in southeast Columbia.

A 2005 Chevrolet heading east on Route WW ran off the side of the road one mile west of Olivet Road, according to a Missouri State Highway Patrol accident report. The vehicle went airborne over several driveways and hit a tree, according to the report.

The driver, Justin C. Ewing, 22, of Fulton, and the passenger, Rebekah Gallatin, 23, also of Fulton, were not wearing seat belts at the time, according to the report. Both sustained moderate injuries, and an ambulance took them to University Hospital, according to the report.

Ewing was treated and released, and Gallatin remained in the hospital but was in good condition later Monday morning, said University Hospital spokeswoman Barbie Morgan.
