Dead infant found in duffel bag in pond near Higbee

HIGBEE — The Missouri State Highway Patrol said a newborn child was found dead inside a duffel bag floating in a central Missouri pond.

The patrol said the baby's body was found Sunday in a small pond about two miles west of Higbee, about 35 miles north of Columbia along Route H in Randolph County.

The child's race, sex and cause of death have not been released.

An autopsy was scheduled for Monday.
