COLUMBIA — There is a severe thunderstorm watch for Boone County until 6 p.m. Monday evening, according to the National Weather Service in St. Louis.

These conditions are favorable for hail and winds of 60 mph or more, Laura Kanofsky, a meteorologist with the National Weather Service, said.

Kanofsky said there will be heavy rainfall through Wednesday, leading to the possibility of minor flooding.

There is also a small stream flood advisory for Boone County until 2:30 p.m. Monday, according to the National Weather Service.

Columbia's Office of Emergency Management website advises the public to prepare tornado plans and to gather safety kits containing:

  • A first aid kit
  • A battery powered radio
  • A flashlight and extra batteries
  • Cans of food and a can opener
  • Bottled water
  • Sturdy shoes and work gloves
