COLUMBIA — A fire at Weil Tire & Auto on the corner of Stadium Boulevard and Old 63 left one injured Tuesday evening.
One employee was treated at the scene for burn injuries and was transported to University Hospitalon a trauma alert because he sustained significant injuries that needed immediate treatment, Columbia Fire Department Battalion Chief Steven Sapp said.
The fire was reported by the business, as well as motorists, because smoke could be seen coming from the north side of the building, he said.
Three engine trucks, one ladder truck, two MU Health Care vehicles, a heavy rescue vehicle and a foam truck were dispatched at 4:58 p.m., Sapp said.
According to Sapp, the foam truck was sent as a precaution because of the large amount of oil and tires at the site, but was not used because the foam in the fire engines was enough to extinguish the flames.
The building suffered smoke damage throughout, and there was significant fire damage at the auto-repair base, Sapp said.
Investigators were working to determine the cause of the fire, he said.
