COLUMBIA — Members of Boone County’s Missouri Task Force 1 are expected home Wednesday afternoon from Joplin where they have helped search for survivors and victims of Sunday's devastating tornado since the wee hours of Monday morning.

The team of 85 departed Joplin for Columbia on Wednesday morning and is scheduled to arrive at Boone County Fire Protection District headquarters around 12:30 p.m.

“Missouri Task Force 1 has been demobilized from the tornado ravaged city of Joplin,” Battalion Chief Gale Blomenkamp said in a news release.

The entire team was on the scene by 3 a.m. Monday and was assigned to search a Home Depot store later that day. The team also deployed rescue squads to four sites where other victims were thought to be.

“The team completed that mission late yesterday evening,” Blomenkamp said. “In all, the team recovered 13 victims from the devastation.”
