COLUMBIA – The Missouri women’s tennis team has earned its first invitation to the Intercollegiate Tennis Association's Kickoff Weekend.

The Tigers are one of 60 schools chosen to play in the tournament that begins with first-round competition Jan. 27 and 28 at 15 different locations. One team will advance from each location to play in the ITA National Team Indoor Championships, scheduled for Feb. 10 to 13 in Charlottesville, Va.

No. 4-seed Missouri will begin play against top seed Georgia in Athens, Ga., as part of the Georgia invitational, which also includes No. 2 seed Fresno State and No. 3 seed Florida International.

“I’m very proud and excited for our girls to have this great opportunity,” said new Tigers coach Sasha Schmid, who came to MU from Stetson University.

The Tigers went 12-10 last season and finished with a final ITA ranking of No. 73.
