COLUMBIA — Police arrested a 49-year-old man Thursday on suspicion of child molestation of a 10-year-old female and statutory sodomy of a 12-year-old female who was 5 years old at the time of the assault.

James Clayton Dinwiddie was arrested at 6:50 a.m. at his southeast Columbia residence on one count of first-degree child molestation and one count of first-degree statutory sodomy, said Columbia Police Department spokeswoman Latisha Stroer.

Stroer said the 10-year-old reported on May 25 that she was assaulted earlier that month. On May 31, the 12-year-old female reported that a family friend who lived in a different section of her trailer park had assaulted her when she was 5 years old.

Dinwiddie is currently being held at Boone County Jail on a total $500,000 bond.
