Missouri River 340 alternative to occur on Kansas River

Organizers of the Missouri River 340 canoe and kayak race hope the event can be held in late summer or early fall. Meanwhile, they've tweaked plans for an alternative race on the Kansas River.

A previous Missourian article stated that the Missouri River 340 was being replaced by a 150-mile race on the Kansas River, but organizers have since revised their plans.

A 100-mile race on the Kansas, or Kaw, River is scheduled for July 22-23, which overlaps with when the Missouri River 340 was originally scheduled. The Kawnivore 100 will begin in Manhattan, Kan., and end in Lawrence.

Scott Mansker, lead organizer of the Missouri River 340 and the Kansas race, announced the change in an email Friday.

Race leaders are offering vouchers for racers who cannot make the rescheduled Missouri River 340. Vouchers can be applied to the Kawnivore 100 or the 2012 Missouri River 340.
